Why for free? What's the catch?

All good photographers charge thousands of dollars for their services, and so they should. There's a lot of pressure, you must be ‘on’ all day, and you leave with thousands of photos to edit. Not to mention the weekend work and expensive camera equipment.

The truth is, I'm doing offering a free shoot because I’m starting again from scratch. I've just returned to my hometown Melbourne after some time away living in Europe (long covid story) and I would like to re-establish myself in the wedding industry. You see, I’ve been here before. From 2014-2019, I had my own successful wedding videography business.

Fast-forward to now, I have two options:

Working for other people where I spend all day shooting in their style and owning none of the images. That means no promotional material for my social feeds. Working for others is a great way to hone your craft if you're inexperienced in the wedding scene. But I have years of wedding experience.

So, I’m left with the other option: offering my service for free and owning the images. The way I look at it: the only benefit for me is to do an exceptional job because ultimately there is nothing else in it for me except for the service I provide and these images. Both can help me build my business. If I do a good job, the word will travel and I'll have the images to showcase.

This offer is a total win-win. Other photographers will think I'm crazy for this. Some might even be annoyed. Perhaps, you can put the money you save towards something that can help you build your life as you enter your next chapter.

Why am I switching to stills?

I want a new challenge. Photography has always been a passion of mine. I've been shooting stills as long as I've been shooting video, so it's a natural pivot for me. I also like the idea of being nimble at weddings (not lugging tripods and sound gear) and developing a stronger relationship between the couple.

Who exactly am I looking for?

A Melbourne based couple who are getting married between December 2023 and September 2024. The sooner, the better.

The wedding ceremony and reception to take place no further than 1hr outside of Melbourne. If further, we can talk about travel costs.

Ideally, there will be ample time reserved for a 'bride and groom session' shoot after the ceremony. An another short session at sunset.

So please, if you think you're the right fit or know someone who might be suited. Get in touch here. This offer will not last.
